You can either use Blogs.mu for free, or become a Blogs.mu Supporter.

Blogs.mu Supporters enjoy a heap of extra features, control over all the advertising on all blogs, use of their own domain, stacks of extra storage space and more!

You can have as many free blogs as you like but if you’d like more features and control (like advertising control, custom domains and more storage space) you can become a supporter.

As a supporter you buy a pack of upgrades.  For example, if you have 15 blogs and you buy a 10 blog pack then 10 of your 15 blogs get the “supporter” features.  If you want to stop being a supporter you can remove your support and all 15 blogs would be back to free blog accounts without the supporter features.

Advertising

There are four advertising spots on each blog:

  • Below a post title but above the content on a single post page
  • Below the post content but above the post comments on a single page
  • At the top of each sidebar
  • In every footer (if you want to use js based contextual ads, like Kontera)

For free sites we use these spots to advertise Blogs.mu and to place our own Adsense… however, as a supporter you can completely remove all of those ads or replace them with your own via a Site Admin option.

You can even decide whether you want to show the ads to logged in users, only to search engine visitors, only to people using IE, only to people who have arrived from links or to a combination of those factors.

Domains

We know blogs.mu is a very lovely domain, and yoursite.blogs.mu is also great, but wouldn’t you like it if it was just yoursite.com - and all the blogs on it were yoursite.com/blogname/?

We thought so :) And consequently it’s simple for Supporters to do - just purchase a domain name (wherever you want, we’re not fussed) and point it to the Blogs.mu servers and you’ll be good to go!

Plugins

If you visit your plugins menu, you’ll see a heap of brilliant add-ons to each blog that do cool things ranging from integrating blogs with twitter to making it snow!

To allow yourself and your users to activate these plugins, just become a supporter :)

Themes

Your default blogs.mu site comes with 15 themes… Supporters get access to over 100!

Storage

By default each free blog you host has 10MB storage - sure that’s not much but as a Supporter every blog you host will have a massive 4GB of storage space for music, videos, phtos and anything else you fancy saving or sharing.

Privacy

Free accounts don’t have any privacy features - but Supporters not only have access to great privacy features but also site admins can set the privacy levels of blogs across the entire site and then decide whether users can change them or not.

Blog & User Creator

As a Supporter you, and your users, get access to the ‘Blog & User’ creator facility that allows you to simply batch create blogs and users from one place - it’s really handy!

Extra features

Supporters can also, a site admins:

  • Monitor their sites for any ‘bad’ (or, erm, improtant) words and get instant email updates when they are posted
  • Review user activity across their site
  • Simply send emails to all users
